About Us...

Trace & Cristian in Cerro Castillo ReservePatagonia Learning Adventures LLC., focuses on creating customized learning adventures for individuals and groups.  We have been developing undergraduate and graduate coursework and travel experiences for universities for almost a decade and work with private companies and groups interested in experiences that combine learning and adventure. We work on a local level in the areas we visit - focusing on ways in which our travels can create positive impacts and support sustainable development. When you choose Patagonia Learning Adventures as the company to host your adventure, you work with insiders… experts about the places and cultures you’ll visit – locals who have grown up amongst these mountains and eco-systems; people who truly love these places and are working hard to maintain and protect their cultural and natural heritage.

Whether your expectations involve combining adventure with university-level curriculum, corporate retreat, service, lifelong-learning or an once-in-a-lifetime friend or family vacation, we have the experience and expertise to bring your dreams to life. In the process, you'll take an active step in helping to build a sustainable livelihood option for the communities of Aysén; a means for them to address the ongoing threats of industrial development that constantly apply pressure on this special "Reserve of Life".

Our Role in Your Adventure

The role of PLA is to provide specialized, context-sensitive planning that meets the travel and educational goals of our groups. We organize and coordinate all in-country travel and expeditions, including working with local sub-contractors and service providers to ensure quality and authenticity.

Our Philosophy

We share the locally-held belief of our hosts that nature-based and agriculturally-based tourism can play a significant role in the future of Aysén and provide a viable avenue for sustainable development. Acting on these beliefs, we consciously seek partnerships with local entrepreneurs and initiatives.

Local Partnerships

Expedition to the NorthWe began working with The Guide’s School of Patagonia (EGP) in 2004. The Guide’s School of Patagonia (EGP) is a project that was created and built by local residents of the Aysén region. EGP prepares people that live in Aysén for success in joining the outdoor tourism industry and in Wildlife Protected Areas. Students at the school learn a wide variety of outdoor skills as well as entrepreneurial business skills, the importance of being active in their communities, and how to be a leader. Most importantly, when they graduate they are successful at finding good paying jobs or at starting their own small businesses, because they have the skills needed for success.

In 2008, we began the next phase of partnership with locals in the region. With a growing group of competent regional guides, the time was right to support their entrepreneurial efforts. We made the strategic decision to share our name and resources with local entrepreneurs, educated through the Guide’s School of Patagonia. Together, we established Patagonia Learning Adventures Chile. PLA-Chile is a Chilean company which hires guides of the region and works with local communities to create and service special travel adventures. Through ongoing relationships with the Guide’s School of Patagonia and other local sustainable-tourism focused networks, PLA-Chile maintains the quality and safety standards of PLA – USA, to provide learning adventures for you and increase regional capacity.
